Group advocates non-violent elections

She explained that ‘No Baga’ group, which means no violence, no killing,  is out to find the soul of Nigeria again, adding that the group would soon embark on rallying Nigerians together to pray for the country and raise funds  for the displaced people in the North East

AN advocacy group, ‘No Baga’, has called on all Nigerians not to resort to violence at the forthcoming general elections in the country, in spite of the tension in the air. One of the Nollywood stars and member of the group, Mr. Kanayo O Kanayo, explained that the group’s main objective is to ensure a peaceful and united Nigeria, before, during and after the elections. While stressing the need for Nigerians to love one another, the Nollywood star counselled that it has become imperative for everyone to desist from making statements that could ignite violence; since no leader in the country is worth dying for. “In the coming days, before the elections, I urge you to observe the airports and see the categories of people who will be flying out of the country. As I speak to you, most politicians’ families are out of the country. And these are the people that want power at all costs. In the event of war, everything about you is reduced. Make no mistake about it, the forth- coming election is about your future and the power to decide your future is in your hands.  But all you need to do is to vote right by voting for candidates of your choice,” he stated. While decrying the spate of violence and mass killings in the country, the initiator of the group, Peace Anyanwu argued that while it is in  Nigerians’ fundamental rights to choose a leader of their choice, this, she added, must however be done in a way that such exercise is conducted without infringing on other people’s rights. Anyanwu also questioned the insensitivity of the Nigerian society to the heinous crimes being perpetrated by insurgents in the country, stating that “In November 2014, 2000 Nigerians were killed in a place called ‘Baga’, 28, 000 Nigerians have died by the activities of a terrorist group called Boko Haram and the society feels indifferent about it. Where is the soul of Nigeria?”
